University of Turku is located in Turku City on the coast of the Baltic Sea in South-West Finland.  Turku City has a population of 180,000 people.  The University is a multidisciplinary academic institute with more than 21,000 students in its seven faculties. Turku University Hospital is responsible for special health care services to a population of 460,000 in The Hospital District of Southwest Finland. Responsibility areas of expert health care services include treatment of head and neck cancer for approximately 720,000 people.   The Department of Oral Diseases and Department of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology and Head and Neck Surgery are the driving forces for HNRN in Turku.
